Skill Assessment
Dribbling
8️⃣ out of 🔟
- Roman has a strong handle but he’s lazy. He doesn’t use it to attack and create shots, mismatches and opportunities offensively for his team. Roman has the potential to create a highlight reel if he becomes a more patient ball handler and reads the game with it. For what Rome wants to do, he has to focus on creating separation and changing speeds (a la Darius Garland/Luka/SGA) with his handle to grow as a scorer.
Shooting
9️⃣ out of 🔟
- Roman can truly become a special shooter. Has to get into the habit of following his shots into the bucket, and crashing boards on misses for easy putbacks or kickout opportunities. Roman also needs to allow shots to come to him, he can be a bit of a chuck. He can be a good chuck though, that’s why he’s got the green light. Roman also has the ability to make contested shots, but the consistency of Rome’s shooting ability will establish itself through intentional and consistent reps.
Passing
6️⃣ out of 🔟
- Roman is a good passer but not a willing passer. He needs to be able to direct traffic and set up attack lanes to create offensive opportunities. Passes will need to be a focus for Roman, as he can do a lot of his damage off the ball if left unchecked.
Defense
5️⃣ out of 🔟
- Roman could have a lot more fun if he engaged on defense. Understands switching, helping, and man to man concepts, but with Rome, it comes down to effort and discipline. Needs to be a vocal leader on the defensive side of the ball.
Rebounding
3️⃣ out of 🔟
- For Roman to be shooting as much as he does he’d probably end up with a double double. Has to play big and force the issue on the glass as a leader on this team. Roman’s rebounding improving will allow him to lead on offense and make his presence felt in the game.
Game IQ & Communication
8️⃣ out of 🔟
- Roman needs to be the conductor that makes sure the Gladiators are operating smoothly. It’s not enough for just him to be good. Roman has to be cerebral and allow his understanding of game inform his decisions and the decisions of those around him. Instead of him getting frustrated with his team, he needs to tell them why something goes well and why something doesn’t. If Roman can get this team to see through his eyes, it will pay immense dividends.
